ConvaTec Introduces Sensi-Care® Clear Zinc Skin Protectant for Diaper Rash

Combination of Zinc Oxide and Dimethicone seals out wetness to sooth and protect sensitive skin

GREENSBORO, NC (December 9, 2014) – ConvaTec, a leading global medical products and technologies company, today announced the launch of an innovative Clear Zinc skin care protectant for diaper rash and other incontinence-associated skin issues.

Sensi-Care® Clear Zinc Skin Protectant is formulated with Zinc Oxide – known for its mild antibacterial activity and skin-soothing properties – and Dimethicone, which repels water to help keep skin dry. This combination makes Sensi-Care Clear Zinc Skin Protectant ideal for people of any age who are at risk for diaper rash or skin irritation associated with incontinence.

In addition, the Clear Zinc allows for visual inspection of underlying skin during use, a distinct advantage compared with traditional white zinc paste. The easy-to-spread formula creates minimal friction during application and forms a thin film that helps to protect skin.

Diaper rash is a common skin condition in babies and young children caused by the skin staying wet, rubbing from the diaper and contact with chemicals in urine and stool. However, diaper rash can affect people of any age when diapers or incontinence briefs are worn. Those at risk include the elderly, disabled and those suffering from temporary or permanent health conditions that can cause incontinence.

Irritation of the skin caused by repeated exposure to urine and/or feces can result in inflammation. Left untreated, inflammation can become chronic, which can lead to fungal or bacterial infection and skin breakdown.

Sensi-Care Clear Zinc is dermatologist tested, CHG compatible, hypoallergenic, and fragrance and dye free. CHG (Chlorhexidine Gluconate) is a disinfectant and broad-spectrum antiseptic used in many skin cleansers.
